The HP Envy 14 is like the final revision of a C+ term paper that always had potential, but just needed an bit of extra information and refinement to get an A. In fact, when HP introduced the Envy 14, the company was rather blunt about the fact that many of the issues that plagued the original Envy systems had been addressed, including the lack of an optical drive and backlight keyboard, the frustrating touchpad and the heat caused by the Core i7 processor.

Wikipedia Gets Catty in Legal Dispute Over F.B.I. Seal

Browser-based iOS ‘jailbreak’ utilizes ‘scary’ PDF security hole

The latest browser-based “jailbreak” for iOS devices, including the iPhone 4, utilizes a PDF exploit that one prominent security expert called both “scary” and “very beautiful work.” Sean Sullivan, security advisor with F-Secure Corporation , revealed on Tuesday the technical details of the jailbreak process, which is done entirely in the Mobile Safari browser. The jailbreakme.com site includes 20 separate PDFs for different combinations of hardware and firmware. The same PDF files crash both Adobe Reader and Foxit on Windows platforms, relying on a corrupt font.

Apple’s market share as a mobile PC vendor has surged along with the launch of iPad, breaking 200% year over year growth while vaulting the company from seventh to third place in global portable computing. As noted in a report by Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Fortune , Deutsche Bank analyst Chris Whitmore has issued a note to clients outlining Apple’s dramatic growth in portable computing, greatly accelerated by brisk iPad sales. Even without counting iPad sales, Apple’s growth in Mac notebooks has propelled it ahead of Dell, HP, Lenovo to achieve the second fastest rate of growth among mobile PC vendors behind netbook maker Acer
