LG VL600 LTE / CDMA modem for Verizon in the wild?

You might remember that an LTE modem for Verizon passed FCC muster not long ago — now, it seems we’re getting our first glimpse of it. As is usually the case with these early devices on next-gen networks, this USB stick doesn’t look quite as svelte as we’d probably like it to be, but we have little doubt that they’ll get progressively thinner and sexier over the course of a year or three.

BeagleBoard finds new purpose in DIY wearable computer

We’ve already seen the small and flexible BeagleBoard used for a couple of different DIY projects , but few quite as impressive as this wearable computer built by Martin Magnusson. In addition to complementing any outfit, this rig runs Angstrom Linux, uses a modified pair of Myvu Crystal video glasses (and some stylish shades) for a display, and simply relies on a Bluetooth keyboard for input and a tethered iPhone for internet connectivity

Fring bends under the pressure of iPhone video calling, Skype temporarily locked down

We guess this is a “good” thing in a roundabout way, but Fring has just dropped the knowledge that its video calling update for the iPhone 4 has been so wildly successful that they’ve been forced to temporarily restrict Skype access to “free up capacity” for direct Fring-to-Fring calls. Hopefully the company is hard at work beefing up its infrastructure to bring everything back to normal — but in the meantime, at least you’ve got an easy way to look your EVO -toting friends square in the face without having to actually see them in the flesh. So, we’ve definitely had a few laughs at the expense of the RoboCup folks. Sure, the goal is admirable, and the amount of knowledge and skill that goes into developing these robot athletes is impressive. Until these automatons learn pick up the pace a little, howevs, there really is a snowball’s chance that they’ll be able to take on a human team

AT&T makes sweeping changes to data plans, iPhone tethering coming at OS 4 launch

You might think that AT&T would hold off for a national HSPA+ deployment or a full-on LTE launch before tweaking its data pricing strategy, but not so much — the carrier is coming out swinging today with some significant changes that should benefit the overwhelming majority of its smartphone users (and could stand to harm a select few). Let’s break down the major points: DataPlus / DataPro The existing $30 fair-use “unlimited” smartphone data plan is being replaced by two new options: $15 per month for 200MB and $25 for 2GB (called “DataPlus” and “DataPro,” respectively)

Boeing’s X-37B , the test craft that’s been kicking around for the last decade or so, has finally made it into orbit. Formerly a NASA project, we’ve heard little about the thing since it passed into DARPA hands in 2004 — and statements like those of the Air Force’s Gary Payton don’t help much: “in all honesty, we don’t know when it’s coming back for sure.” How’s that for autonomous?
